Biography: Michael Mahonen

Michael Mahonen (born April 27, 1964) is a Canadian actor, director and screen writer.

Biography

He is a graduate of the George Brown College, in Toronto.

Michael is best known best known for his role as "Gus Pike" in the Emmy Award-winning television series Road to Avonlea.[citation needed] He received 3 Gemini Award Nominations as 'Gus'.[citation needed]

In 1993, Michael won the Gemini Award, in his portrayal of "Lee Colgan" in the true crime drama, Conspiracy of Silence.[citation needed] During filming of Conspiracy of Silence, Michael was also filming Road to Avonlea episodes, and he often found himself playing a dark character in the morning (as "Lee") and then a lighter character in the evening, (as "Gus"). Michael has since donated his Gemini award to his hometown, and it can be viewed in the Kirkland Lake "Hall of Fame".[citation needed]

In 2002, Michael won the coveted Gold Talon Award from the Danvers High School, located in Danvers, Massachusetts. Michael also took part in a question/answer session with some of the school's students. [[1]]

Michael has guest starred in various Canadian and American television programs, such as Star Trek: Voyager, Rin Tin Tin K-9 Cop, Strong Medicine, This Is Wonderland , Viper, The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios and "Canada: A People's History". He has had roles in such feature films as Captured and Giant Steps and has also starred on stage in Judith Thompson's playSled and more recently at the North Bay Heritage Festival, in The Tempest with fellow Road to Avonlea alumni David Fox and Robert Collins.

In 2002 Michael wrote a script about persecution of the Falun Gong in China. This script became a movie called Sandstorm, which was written, directed and produced by Michael. Sandstorm has won 29 awards in various film festivals around the world.[2]

Michael is currently working on another film[citation needed], writing and continues his acting.
